General Information & Registration
What is It?
The Art Connects Program gives participants the
opportunity to interact directly with original works
of art through a guided tour and studio activity.
Tours of the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba’s Main Gallery and Community Gallery exhibitions are available to all age groups and activities
will be suited to the needs of each group.
Why is it important?
Art education encourages participants to discuss, reflect and explore how artists communicate ideas to the world. Participants are encouraged to make a connection to art through tours which
embrace a variety of learning methods and styles
in a welcoming environment where individual
backgrounds are acknowledged and valued.
Learners are provided with opportunities to
reflect critically on their own views, develop
openness to ideas and to broaden their own
perspectives, while applying effective
communication skills and problem-solving skills.
Early Years (K-4)
Early years tours will encourage children to learn about art through discussions, stories, and games.
Children will develop new vocabulary to communicate ideas as they explore and enjoy the art
gallery before going into the studio to create their own work or art.
Middle Years (5-8) and Senior Years (9-12)
Interactive tours will focus on learning about the creative process, developing critical thinking skills,
building vocabulary, and defining art. We will look at how art can be used to communicate ideas and
how politics, culture, and current events affect artists. Activities will explore creative thinking while also developing art making techniques including – but not limited to – drawing, sculpting, and painting.
Community Groups – All Ages
The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba welcomes people from the community to participate in a guided tour of the exhibitions. Following the tour, participants will take part in an art activity which
is inspired by the exhibition. All types of groups are welcome. Casual groups of friends or families
who are interested in art are also welcome to participate in this programming.
