Organization Capability

The AGSM has significant professional depth within its employee base. It is the largest professional visual arts institution outside Winnipeg. The following are key employees managing the day to day operations of the organization. In addition there are some 25 part time professional instructors and over 50 active volunteers.
Director, Jennifer Woodbury

Jennifer Woodbury is an arts administrator with over 15 years experience in public program development, marketing and communications in the cultural sector. Prior to her appointment as the Executive Director of the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, she was the Acting Director of Creative Residencies for media and visual artists at The Banff Centre for Continuing Education. Born in Winnipeg, Woodbury was the Director/Curator of Ace Art for a number of years and active in the volunteer sector as a board member and consultant for various local, regional and national arts associations.
Woodbury is also in the final stages of completing a Master's Degree in Communications and Technology from the University of Alberta. Her specific area of research is on the impact of new technologies on art, audience and the role of the public art gallery.

B.F.A. ö ceramics artist with 18 years experience teaching at the college level, in operating ceramics related business and as a professional ceramics artist.
Curator, Catherine Mattes

Catherine Mattes holds a Master of Arts in Art History from Concordia University. Until recently she was the Curator in Residence at the Winnipeg Art Gallery where she produced several exhibitions addressing Métis and First Nations identity within contemporary art practice. In addition, Catherine has contributed articles to many other galleries and magazines including Urban Shaman, MAWA, Aboriginal Voices and Border Crossings.

I graduated from University of Manitoba in 1986 receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Drawing.
After graduating I have worked in the Picture Framing industry for 16 years.
Preparator, Tracey Otto

Tracy Otto holds a BA honors in History from Malaspina University. She is currently working on an MA in Archival Studies at The University of Manitoba. Her focus of research is art by soldiers in World War I.
