With Alec in Mind
Selections from the Manitoba Arts Council Art Bank Collection
Curated by J.J. Kegan McFadden

In this exhibition, artist and curator J. J. Kegan McFadden revisits a traumatic experience in his family history – the murder of his great uncle, Alexander Tabolotney (1922 – 1995) by his grandson, Aaron Molodowic. He incorporates traces of Alec’s life, such as family photographs and ephemera found on his property, with selections from the Manitoba Art Bank Collection that resonate with his personal memories and stories.

By coupling mundane objects from Alec’s everyday life with the Manitoba Art Bank Collection and his own personal remembering, McFadden brings to the fore the poetics of the everyday, things that we all inhabit but often take for granted. The exhibition will be accompanied by an artist book.

Riverheights Terrace Painters
Over 80 and Rising!

Opening Reception January 19, 7:30pm

This exhibition showcases works made by Joyce Rushton’s students at Riverheights Terrace. Drawing from her extensive art background, Joyce Rushton has been teaching classes at the Riverheights Terrace for the past eight years.

Her students, most of them in their 80s and 90s, paint with great enthusiasm, and some have been taking classes with Joyce for as long as she has been teaching. Each year, they develop their skills by learning techniques of watercolour painting, pastel drawing, and experimenting with different styles of art-making.
