Imagine moving and settling in a community on what may seem like the ‘other side of the world’, where you do not speak the language fluently and which has weather, customs, food and culture that is vastly different from your own. Some of our newcomers to Brandon have been asked to document what this feels like through photographs and interviews.

A selection of these photographs along with texts in all four languages of the project are currently on exhibition at the AGSM Community Gallery.

This photographic exhibition is based on the research project “Building knowledge on the determinants of health of immigrants in smaller cities: A photo voice study supported by the Canadian institutes of Health and Research. The research team members are Dr. S. Chau and Dr. C. Teixeira at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan), Dr. D. Lai at University of Calgary and Dr. J. Hughes at University of Manitoba.
