FIONA ANNIS, LAURA FINDLAY, AND LORNA BAUER

Opening Reception: Thursday June 19, 7:30PM
Co-produced with the Platform Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts, Upshot focuses on evoking suspension, holding still the tension between action and consequence. The selected photographs and video pieces by Fiona Annis, Lorna Bauer, and Laura Findlay explore loss, reconstruction and potential, addressing various ways of looking at the space between action and consequence. These gestures assume a breadth of manifestations including legacies, recollections, durations and expectations. The suspended space can be narrow and momentary, in which results immediately follow actions, as a bulb shattering into countless pieces, or a delicately balanced fluorescent tube inevitably crashing down. In other works, the space can be infinite and elusive, spanning places and generations, with consequences that act as clues to actions that preceded them at indefinite moments. They evolve even after the events have presumably taken place, as with inherited objects that carry on their functions well beyond their owners’ deaths.
