Opening Reception: Thursday May 16, 7:30PM

We are Three and The Mother combines two projects by artist Kerri-Lynn Reeves. The projects explore family through the use of various media, including fibre and printing techniques, and collaborative art-making with her child, Finley Rae Reeves Williams, and co-parent Aron Williams. Reeves's practice is inspired by her upbringing on a farm in southwestern Manitoba, where her family has worked on the land for over 100 years. Her work often looks at skill, legacy, and hands-on knowledge. Originally from the Virden area, Reeves's practice centres around her identity as an artist and mother, and her efforts to strike balance between the work of artmaking and the work of motherhood.

BIO:

Kerri-Lynn Reeves is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, curator, writer, and mother originally from rural Manitoba. Her work explores the relationship of the social and the material. With a commitment to blurring the lines between life and art, Reeves earned her Master of Fine Arts - Studio Arts (Fibres and Materials Practices) from Concordia University (Montreal, QC) in 2016 with her 6-month old child strapped to her chest. She holds a BFA from the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB) and has received awards from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Winnipeg Arts Council, Manitoba Arts Council, Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism, and Canada Council for the Arts. Reeves has participated in residencies at the Banff Centre, Riding Mountain Artist Residency, Mildred’s Lane, and Museum of Contemporary Native Arts. Reeves continues to explore the confluences of her art making, parenting, and teaching practices. In 2019, Reeves and her daughter will participate in MOTHRA: Artist-Parent Residency, hosted at Artscape Gibraltar Point.
